Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about SignalWhen.

What is a signal?

A signal is a monitoring task that watches a specific URL or feed for changes. Each signal has a type (Website Change, Uptime, RSS Feed, or JSON API), a check schedule, and one or more notification channels.

How often are signals checked?

Check frequency depends on your plan. Free plans check every 60 minutes, Starter every 30 minutes, Pro every 15 minutes, and Business every 5 minutes.

What counts as a "change"?

It depends on the signal type. For Website Change signals, any difference in the extracted text content triggers an alert. For Uptime, a status code change triggers it. For RSS, new feed items. For JSON API, a change in the tracked field value.

Can I monitor pages behind a login?

Currently, SignalWhen monitors publicly accessible URLs. For APIs that require authentication, you can add custom headers (like API keys) using the JSON API signal type.

How long is check history retained?

History retention depends on your plan: 7 days on Free, 30 days on Starter, 90 days on Pro, and 365 days on Business.

Can I attach multiple channels to one signal?

Yes! You can attach as many notification channels as your plan allows to a single signal. For example, you could get both an email and a Slack message when a change is detected.

Is there an API?

An API is planned for a future release. For now, you can manage all signals and channels through the web dashboard.
